Saturday , February 24, 2018 - 5:00 AM

SALT LAKE CITY — The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square will offer repeat Easter performances of their popular concerts featuring Handel’s “Messiah,” but anyone wanting to attend in person will need to act soon to get tickets.

“This musical masterpiece by George Frideric Handel, first performed in the spring of 1742, has become one of the world's most beloved musical works,” according to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s website.

A worldwide audience is invited to participate via live streaming, according to a news release from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The concerts will be held Thursday, March 22, and Friday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m. on both days in the Tabernacle at Temple Square, located at 50 N West Temple in Salt Lake City.

Tickets to attend the event will be available online only Tuesday, Feb. 27, starting at 7 p.m. and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis through lds.org/events.

Because of high demand, patrons will be limited to two tickets, according to the news release, and will be required to have a username and password, which can be set up in advance.

To provide more opportunities for concert seating, the performances will be simulcast in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building Legacy Theater and in the Conference Center Theater.

The concert’s live stream may be found Friday, March 23, at motab.org/messiah, LDS.org or mormon.org, with a pre-concert feed beginning at 7 p.m.

The last time the choir and orchestra performed “Messiah,” it generated 170,000 views in 95 countries.

Video of the event will be available on the choir’s website through April 9. BYUtv will air the concert Sunday, March 25, at 3:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 1, at 10 p.m.

During the live stream on March 23, various community, music and church groups will join their voices with the choir in “Messiah” singalongs at locations throughout the world.

To assist participants with the singalong experience, the choir has connection instructions as well as a downloadable PDF file of the concert program with the text of the oratorio and historical information about Messiah at mormontabernaclechoir.org/messiah. Participants are asked to post their experiences on social media with the hashtag #MessiahLive.
